Redemption Camp (2026): Address, Accommodation, Programmes and Getting There

Evening traffic on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway towards Redemption Camp

Plenty of people head for Redemption Camp expecting a Lagos address and find themselves in Ogun State, on a stretch of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway where one broken-down truck can hold up thousands of worshippers for hours. The camp itself is easy to find once you are there. Getting in, finding a bed and getting out again is where first-time visitors lose their evening.

The questions below follow the order most visitors ask them: where the camp is, how to reach it from Lagos, Ibadan or the airport, when the big programmes hold, where to stay and what to expect on the road. Prices are approximate and can move, so confirm anything you pay for before you leave home.

Redemption Camp Address and Location

The Redemption Camp location is KM 46 on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway in Ogun State. The address the church prints for its monthly Holy Ghost Service is Redemption City, KM 46, Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, Ogun State. The Holy Ghost Congress website gives the same kilometre marker, written as Redemption Camp, KM 46 Lagos-Ibadan Express Way, Ogun State. Hotel listings around the camp use Mowe, Ibafo or Shimawa as their address, depending on which side of the gates they sit.

On 9 August 2022 the General Overseer, Pastor Enoch Adeboye, renamed the settlement Redemption City. The church’s own pages use the new name, but the old one remains in everyday speech, in bus calls and on hotel listings, so use whichever your driver understands. Searches for Redemption Camp Lagos-Ibadan Expressway usually mean the KM 46 gates, so give your driver that marker.

The camp is large. Reports put it at more than 2,000 hectares, and Wikipedia gives 2,500. Guardian Nigeria counted six official entrances, so agree on a gate with your host or hotel before you arrive. Pastor Adeboye moved there on 1 October 1985, and he has said the church bought the land for ₦6,000 after turning down a pricier plot near Iju.

How to Get to Redemption Camp

From Lagos by Bus

A ticketing company’s travel guide lists the usual boarding points as Ojota, Berger, Mile 12 and Iyana-Ipaja, with Berger and Ojota the busiest. Look for buses showing Redemption Camp or Mowe/Ibafo, and ask the conductor whether the bus goes to the main gate or only to the expressway. From the road, tricycles and motorbikes cover the last stretch.

The Ogun State government launched CNG-powered buses on the Mowe, Ibafo, Magboro, Arepo and Berger route in December 2023, with a Berger terminal at New Garage. Ask at Berger whether they still run and what the fare is, because the launch fares will have moved.

From Ibadan and Other Cities

From Ibadan, buses leave from Challenge, Iwo Road and New Garage. Tell the driver you want Redemption Camp so you are not carried on towards Lagos before you realise. For anyone searching Redemption Camp Nigeria from another state, the usual route is an inter-state operator to Lagos or Ibadan and a change there.

The standard-gauge train does not solve this. Our Lagos to Ibadan train guide lists Ebute Metta, Agege, Abeokuta and Moniya, and none of them is at Mowe or Ibafo.

By Car or Ride-Hailing

If you land at Murtala Muhammed Airport, our Lagos airport terminal guide explains which terminal your flight uses before you look for a ride. Then plan the drive around the clock: leaving the airport on a programme evening means crossing the mainland and joining the same expressway as everyone else.

Agree the fare before you start, and expect surge pricing on apps around big services. Gates are congested on programme nights, so choose a pick-up point on a quieter road for the return and share your live location with someone.

Programmes That Fill Redemption Camp

Three recurring programmes bring the largest crowds. The church announces exact dates and themes each time, so check its official pages before booking transport or a room.

ProgrammeWhen it holdsWhat to expect
Holy Ghost ServiceFirst Friday of every month, listed from 19hrsAn evening service that runs late into the night
Annual ConventionTraditionally in August, over about a weekDaily sessions, with pastors and deacons ordained during the week
Holy Ghost CongressDecember, over six daysMorning and evening sessions, with one night running to around 2am

The Holy Ghost Service page and the Congress site give the programme details and the address. Neither mentions a ticket or a registration fee, but confirm that with the parish or the church before you assume it.

Between programmes the camp is quieter, roads are easier and rooms are easier to get, which makes it the better time for a first look at the place.

Redemption Camp Accommodation

The church’s Redemption City directory lists 23 chalets and guest houses for short stays, including Moses Apartment, White House Suites, Shiloh Apartment, Bethel Suites, International Guest House, The Overflow Executive Chalets and Redemption Resort. There is no official Redemption Camp accommodation price list, because the directory does not publish rates and each place sets its own price. That is why costs vary so widely, and why a quoted figure from a friend may be out of date.

Rooms inside the camp and beside the main gates are the first to go when a big programme is announced. Book early, ask for a written confirmation, and read the cancellation rule for programme weeks before you pay a deposit.

Dominion Apartment and Guest House

This small hotel stands beside the main entrance gate of the RCCG New Auditorium, on One Million Junction Road, Shimawa. Booking listings show roughly ₦35,000 for a standard suite up to about ₦82,500 for a one-bedroom serviced apartment, with 24-hour power, free Wi-Fi and fenced parking.

Its normal cancellation rule is free up to two days before arrival, but its facilities text mentions longer notice and no refunds for major church programmes, so ask which applies before you pay.

If everything near the camp is full, you can sleep in Lagos and commute, but you must allow for the expressway on both legs.

Traffic on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway

The road is the real risk to your plans. One stalled truck can stop the whole Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, and reporters keep naming Kara Bridge, OPIC and Fagbems as choke points. In one reported jam near Kara, a container fell across the carriageway, some drivers then went against the flow, and traffic stood still at Kara, OPIC and Fagbems even after the container was cleared. Lagos and Ogun agencies later deployed more officers to stop counter-flow driving.

The Holy Ghost Service starts in the evening, which is also when commuters are heading home on the same road, so a first Friday needs more time than any other day.

  • Leave early and plan to arrive in daylight, before the evening build-up.
  • Fill your tank and charge your phone before you join the expressway.
  • If you drive, rest if you are tired. The FRSC advises a 10 to 15 minute break at a filling station or other safe place rather than pushing on.
  • Agree a meeting point with your group in case the network is congested.
  • Keep phones and cash out of sight in dense crowds, and keep children close.

What to Pack for a Night Service

The Holy Ghost Service and the Congress run past midnight, so pack as you would for a long night outdoors:

  • A wrap or light blanket for the small hours.
  • Water, a small snack and a power bank.
  • A rain cover for your phone and bag in the wet months.
  • Your hotel or chalet confirmation, saved on your phone and printed.
  • Small notes for transport and food, kept apart from your main cash.

Before the service starts, note the nearest sign, screen or pillar to your seat, because it is easy to lose your group in a hall of this size.

Food, Health and Rules Inside the City

Redemption City works much like a small town. The directory lists eight restaurants, including Mimi’s, Truly Hospitable, Shalom Restaurant, Tantalizers and King’s Restaurant, plus an RCCG Medical Centre, a fire service and a water department. Guardian Nigeria also reported a church-run 25-megawatt power station, a water supply of 6.7 million litres a day and at least seven bank branches, though it is wiser to carry cash before a programme.

Codes of conduct are displayed across the community, and Guardian Nigeria says visitors are expected to follow them. FRSC officers enforce speed limits on internal roads, and the camp has its own security post. Read the signs at your gate and follow instructions from camp officials during services.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Redemption Camp in Lagos or Ogun State?

It is in Ogun State, at KM 46 on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway. Many people still search for Redemption Camp Lagos and describe it as a Lagos venue because buses and traffic come from Lagos.

What Time Does the Holy Ghost Service Start?

The official page lists it every first Friday of the month from 19hrs. The service runs deep into the night, so plan your return journey before you set out.

Can I Visit Outside a Big Programme?

The official pages describe programmes rather than tourist visits, and no visitor entry rules are published. Arrange it through a resident, your chalet or the parish you are travelling with.

How Many People Can the Arena Hold?

Redemption Camp capacity claims vary widely: one report describes a three-kilometre-by-three-kilometre auditorium, and TheCable reports a six million seat capacity. No independent headcount exists, so treat these as church-linked figures.

Plan the Night and the Drive Home

The camp is only half of the trip, because the drive home after a late service decides how the week begins. Book your room before you buy transport, choose a pick-up point away from the gates, and leave Mowe with a rested driver and a full tank. If no room near the camp is available, our guide to hotels in Lagos with prices lists mainland options, provided you allow for the expressway both ways.
