On a recent GIGM route out of Enugu, for example, a Hiace seat cost ₦44,020 online against ₦45,000 at the terminal. When transporters released Christmas fares on the Lagos-Enugu route, GUO’s Hiace Ultra seat moved from ₦45,500 to about ₦52,725, a rise of roughly 16%, and its Sienna seats climbed by a similar share. GIGM (GIG Mobility)
GIG Mobility, still called God is Good Motors by many travellers, started in Edo State in 1998 and runs one of the largest terminal networks in Nigeria. For Abuja passengers, its Lagos departure points include Jibowu, Iyana Ipaja, FESTAC and Ajah, and its FCT terminals include Utako, Kubwa and Maraba.

ABC Transport
ABC Transport is headquartered in Owerri but runs Lagos terminals at Jibowu and Amuwo-Odofin, and it also schedules Abuja trips from Ajah. ABC Transport Lagos to Abuja buses are timed for early starts, and its own timetable shows a separate 5:30 a.m. service for corps members travelling to the NYSC camp.

Cross Country
Cross Country, the Yaba-based operator, lists Lagos terminals in Yaba, Jibowu, Maza-Maza, Isolo (Cele), Ikotun and Ajah, and the Yaba office serves Abuja passengers directly. In the FCT it lists terminals at Utako and Kubwa.
Other Coach Lines
Chisco, GUO, Young Shall Grow and Peace Mass Transit have all sold seats on this corridor for years from their own Lagos terminals. Their schedules and fares change more often than those of the three operators above, and a Lagos to Abuja bus price quoted a few weeks earlier may not hold, so check each company’s app or call the terminal the day before.
Lagos to Abuja by Road: The Corridors Drivers Use
In a straight line Abuja is only about 530 km from Lagos. On the road, the distance is roughly 700 to 760 km depending on the corridor, and every route starts on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway and finishes on the Abuja-Lokoja highway.
- Western corridor: Ibadan, Ogbomoso and Ilorin, then south-east through Omu-Aran and Kabba to Lokoja.
- Eastern corridor: through Akure or Ado-Ekiti to join the Okene road, then on to Lokoja.
- Final leg for everyone: Lokoja, Koton Karfe, Abaji and Gwagwalada, then into the city.
Roadworks rarely change the Lagos to Abuja bus price, but they decide how long you sit in the seat. The Abuja-Lokoja road is the slow part. It has been rebuilt section by section for years, and progress has been uneven. At one federal inspection, the 47 km Koton Karfe to Abaji stretch was only about 10% complete, while the short Lokoja-Ganaja section was almost finished. The Works Ministry has also terminated several slow contracts on this road, and it has declared an 8.2 km concrete section ready for traffic.
In practice, a bus from Lagos to Abuja can expect contraflows, single-lane diversions and long truck queues around Koton Karfe and Abaji. Officials have admitted that festive traffic on this axis built up heavily over the Christmas period.
Security shapes the timetable too. The Kogi stretches, particularly between Lokoja and Abuja and around Kabba, have a history of kidnapping incidents. That is the main reason the big operators run this route in daylight and why you will pass several police and military checkpoints. Keep your ID card where you can reach it.
Lagos to Abuja Travel Time by Road and When Buses Leave
Plan on 9 to 12 hours, terminal to terminal. With heavy diversions, a breakdown or a slow checkpoint, 14 hours is not unusual.
A typical day looks like this:
- Board in Lagos between 5:30 and 7:00 a.m.
- Clear the Berger, Mowe and Sagamu interchange traffic within the first two hours if the bus leaves on time.
- Reach Lokoja in the afternoon, after one or two short food and fuel stops.
- Arrive in Abuja between late afternoon and early evening.
Buses have no toilets, so use the terminal facilities before boarding and at each stop. If you have a flight, an exam or a wedding the same evening, this route is too unpredictable to cut it fine; travel the day before.
Getting Off in Abuja: Choose the Right Park
Where you leave the bus matters almost as much as the Lagos to Abuja bus price, because a cross-city taxi in Abuja can be expensive late in the evening. Ask the conductor in Lagos which FCT stops the bus makes, and book to the one nearest your destination.
Utako
Utako Bus Terminal is the remodelled former Jabi Motor Park, the largest and busiest park in the FCT. GIGM lists a terminal in the Utako area, and several other lines use it too. Kubwa
Kubwa is a large satellite town on the north-western side of the city, on the road towards Zuba and Kaduna. GIGM lists a Kubwa terminal, so get off here if you live in Kubwa, Dutse or Bwari rather than riding into Utako and back out again.
Mararaba
Mararaba (spelt Maraba on GIGM’s network) sits just across the FCT boundary in Nasarawa State, on the road to Keffi. GIGM lists a terminal there. It suits passengers heading to Nyanya, Karu or Keffi, although the Abuja-Keffi road has been under reconstruction, so evening traffic can be slow.
Flying Instead, and Why There Is No Train
Lagos-Abuja is one of the busiest air routes in Africa, with dozens of daily flights and about 1 hour 15 minutes in the air. There is no passenger train between the two cities. The Lagos-Ibadan standard gauge line stops at Ibadan, the Ibadan to Abuja section of the planned Lagos-Kano line has not been built, and the Abuja-Kaduna train runs north from the capital rather than south.
