Four airlines now fly nonstop between Lagos and the Coal City, and on a normal weekday you can pick from six or seven departures between early morning and early evening. The time in the air is only about an hour, so the real decisions are which fare to take, which Lagos terminal to go to and how you will get from Emene into town.
On a quiet midweek date, the Lagos to Enugu flight price for a one-way economy seat usually starts at around ₦100,000. Book in the last few days, or fly in the Christmas rush, and the same seat can cost three or four times as much. Every figure below is approximate and moves often, so confirm the live fare on the airline’s website or app before you pay.
Lagos to Enugu Flight Price on an Ordinary Week
Away from the festive season, the lowest one-way economy fares on the airlines’ booking pages sit roughly between ₦102,000 and ₦127,000. United Nigeria and Enugu Air are usually at the bottom of that band, Air Peace slightly above them, and Ibom Air near the top.
Air Peace’s own fare calendar is a useful benchmark. Its cheapest Lagos-Enugu return on many off-peak dates is about ₦213,800, which is roughly ₦107,000 each way. On dates when the cheaper seats have gone, the same return has shown up at ₦337,600 to ₦347,100.
For planning, these approximate ranges hold for most of the year:
- One way, booked a week or more ahead on a quiet date: about ₦100,000 to ₦130,000
- One way, booked late or on a nearly full flight: about ₦140,000 to ₦175,000
- Return, outside December and early January: about ₦205,000 to ₦350,000
Cheap flights to Enugu do exist, but they are the early seats on quiet dates. No airline on this route consistently undercuts the others by more than about ₦25,000, so a Lagos to Enugu flight price far below the band usually means a sale or a fare with strict change rules.
Four Airlines Flying From Two Lagos Terminals
The airline you pick moves the Lagos to Enugu flight price by up to about ₦25,000; picking the wrong terminal can cost you the whole ticket. All flights from Lagos to Enugu leave from the domestic side of Murtala Muhammed Airport, but not from the same building. Air Peace uses the General Aviation Terminal (GAT), part of the old domestic complex, while the other three airlines use MMA2. Give your driver the right one; this guide to the Lagos airport terminals shows where each building sits.
| Airline | Lagos terminal | Nonstop flights a day | Lowest one-way fares seen |
|---|---|---|---|
| Air Peace | GAT (old domestic) | 2 | About ₦107,000 to ₦117,000 |
| United Nigeria Airlines | MMA2 | 1 | About ₦102,500 |
| Enugu Air | MMA2 | 2 to 3 | About ₦102,000 to ₦123,500 |
| Ibom Air | MMA2 | 1 | About ₦127,000 |
Frequencies and fares change with each schedule season, so check the airline’s timetable for your exact date.
Air Peace
Air Peace normally flies the route twice a day, once early in the morning and once in the early afternoon. Its departures page lists Enugu flights from the MM1 Zulu terminal at GAT, so do not head to MMA2 out of habit. As the biggest domestic carrier it has more aircraft to swap in when one goes technical, but in one NCAA monthly punctuality report 71.4% of its flights were delayed, against an industry average of about 60%.
United Nigeria Airlines
United Nigeria treats Enugu as home. The airline is headquartered in the city, and its first commercial flight, on 12 February 2021, was Lagos to Enugu. It flies the route once a day from the domestic wing of MMA2, usually in the afternoon or early evening, and its fares are often the cheapest. The trade-off is punctuality: in the same NCAA report, 76.6% of its flights left late. Our United Nigeria Airlines guide covers its booking channels and wider network.
Enugu Air
Enugu Air is owned by the Enugu State Government. It launched on 7 July 2025 with Embraer jets, received its own Air Operator Certificate from the NCAA in March 2026 and now runs two or three flights a day in each direction. In Lagos it checks in at MMA2, Zone C. Its delay rate in that NCAA report was 66.3%. One handy extra is that its website sells pre-booked rides from the Enugu airport, with drivers tracking your actual landing time.
Ibom Air
Ibom Air started flying to Enugu in September 2020 and runs one morning flight a day from MMA2. Its fares tend to be the highest of the four, but it had the best record of the four in that NCAA report, with 45.4% of flights delayed. If you have a morning appointment in Enugu, that reliability can be worth the extra ₦20,000 or so.
Why the Lagos to Enugu Flight Price Doubles at Christmas
No domestic route feels the South-East homecoming quite like this one. From mid-December, Lagos-based families, traders and students head east for Christmas, New Year and village events, and in the first week of January the whole movement reverses.
Airlines set their peak fares months before the season. In one recent Yuletide, Vanguard reported Air Peace lifting its Lagos-Enugu economy fare from ₦145,000 to ₦335,500 one way, and United Nigeria moving from ₦125,500 to the same ₦335,500. A Nairametrics survey of Christmas Eve departures out of Lagos found the cheapest nonstop Enugu seat at ₦430,700.
At those levels the December Lagos to Enugu flight price is more than double the ordinary fare. A few moves soften the blow:
- Book as soon as you know your dates. The peak fares are announced early, and the lower fare buckets inside the peak still sell out first.
- Read each airline’s peak window. In that season, BusinessDay reported that United Nigeria’s peak fares applied from 11 December, while Air Peace priced its South-East routes at the peak level from 1 December to 30 January.
- Compare Ibom Air. Vanguard’s report said Ibom Air kept its festive fares within its usual range, so the airline that is dearest in March can be the cheapest in December.
- Mix modes. Flying one way and taking the bus the other halves the damage.
Easter and the two Sallah holidays push fares up as well, though far less sharply than December.
Baggage, ID and Check-In on This Route
An Air Peace Lagos to Enugu economy ticket includes a 20 kg checked bag. United Nigeria, Enugu Air and Ibom Air give economy passengers the same, and their premium or business cabins allow 30 kg. Cabin rules vary more: United Nigeria allows one hand bag of up to 6 kg, while Enugu Air’s conditions of carriage allow two pieces of up to 7 kg each, subject to space.
The 20 kg limit bites hardest on the way back to Lagos. Yam tubers, bags of garri, abacha and Christmas gifts from the village add up fast, and excess weight is charged per kilo at the counter. A good Lagos to Enugu flight price stops looking good once you pay for ten extra kilos of yam, so if you expect to be well over, ask a bus company for its parcel price as well and compare.
Check-in times differ slightly:
- United Nigeria opens airport counters two hours before departure and closes them 45 minutes before.
- Ibom Air also closes at 45 minutes, and its earliest counters open at 5:30 a.m. for dawn flights.
- Enugu Air opens its desks two hours before departure and wants you at the gate 30 minutes before take-off.
Adults need a valid government, company or school photo ID. Ibom Air asks children for photo ID and infants, who must be at least seven days old, for a birth certificate. From Lekki or Ajah to GAT or MMA2, leave far more time than the distance suggests.
Arriving at Akanu Ibiam International Airport
Akanu Ibiam International Airport is at Emene, on the eastern edge of Enugu. It has a single 3,000-metre runway and handles domestic flights plus a small number of international services. In June 2026 the Federal Government handed its operation to Aero Alliance Limited under a 20-year concession, so expect changes to parking and terminal services over time.
Getting into town is straightforward:
- Bolt operates at the airport, and the app shows the current pickup point. Even if you end up in a cab, check the Bolt estimate first so you know what a fair price looks like.
- Airport taxis wait outside arrivals. Agree the fare to your exact street before anyone touches your bags.
- Enugu Air passengers can pre-book a driver on the airline’s website.
Most visitors stay in Independence Layout, GRA, New Haven or Trans-Ekulu, all a short drive away outside rush hour. Our list of hotels in Enugu with prices breaks the options down by area and budget.
Going beyond the city? Nsukka, home of the University of Nigeria’s main campus, and Abakaliki are both onward road trips from Emene. If your real destination is Awka or Onitsha, compare fares into Anambra’s own airport at Umueri, which United Nigeria lists among its destinations.
When the Bus Beats the Plane
The road runs from Lagos through Sagamu, Ore and Benin, crosses the Niger between Asaba and Onitsha, then climbs through Awka to Enugu. A smooth trip takes roughly 8 to 10 hours. Holiday traffic at Onitsha, the Benin-Ore stretch and the checkpoints can stretch it much further, although the Second Niger Bridge, first opened to festive traffic at Christmas 2022, has eased the crossing.
GUO and GIGM both run Lagos-Enugu coaches from Mainland parks such as Iyana Ipaja and Ojota, alongside other South-East lines. A seat on a 15 or 16-seater commonly costs roughly ₦30,000 to ₦55,000, and 7-seater Sienna-type buses cost more; one pre-Christmas survey by Nairametrics found GUO charging ₦61,750 to ₦65,000 for its Ojota-Enugu 7-seater. Operators, parks and booking tips are in our Lagos to Enugu bus price guide.
Even at ₦55,000, the bus costs about half of an ordinary Lagos to Enugu flight price and a fraction of a December one. It is the better choice if you are carrying far more than 20 kg, travelling alone on a tight budget, or every flight in your window is above ₦300,000. For a two or three-day visit, the day lost on the road in each direction usually tips the decision back to flying.
Questions Enugu-Bound Flyers Ask
How Long Is the Lagos to Enugu Flight Time?
About 1 hour to 1 hour 10 minutes in the air; the two airports are roughly 470 km apart in a straight line. Door to door, allow at least three to four hours once you add the Lagos drive, check-in and the ride from Emene.
Which Airline Is Usually the Cheapest?
United Nigeria and Enugu Air most often show the lowest Lagos to Enugu flight price on ordinary dates, with Air Peace close behind. In December the gap closes, and Ibom Air can end up the cheapest.
Do I Need a Passport to Fly to Enugu?
No. It is a domestic flight, so a valid photo ID such as a national ID card, driver’s licence, voter’s card or passport is enough. Students can use a school ID on Enugu Air, according to its conditions of carriage.
Does the Lagos to Enugu Flight Price Include a Checked Bag?
Yes, on standard economy tickets with all four airlines, along with a cabin bag. Promotional fares can come with tighter conditions; Ibom Air’s Special Promo fares, for example, cannot be changed or refunded, so read the rules on the payment screen before you commit.
Is a Return Ticket Cheaper Than Two One-Way Tickets?
Only slightly. Air Peace’s lowest return of about ₦213,800 is a little under two of its cheapest one-way fares. Buying separate one-way tickets lets you mix airlines, for example Enugu Air out in the morning and Ibom Air back.
Outside December, this is one of the better-value domestic routes: four airlines, frequent departures and fares that sit close together. Pick your Lagos terminal first, then the fare, and if you are heading home for Christmas, start watching the Lagos to Enugu flight price as soon as the airlines release their December seats.
