Lagos to Enugu Bus Price: Operators, Lagos Parks, Holy Ghost Arrivals and Christmas Fares (2026)

Lagos to Enugu Bus Price: Operators, Lagos Parks, Holy Ghost Arrivals and Christmas Fares

From mid-December, the Lagos parks that serve the South-East fill with yams, cartons, rice bags and whole families, and Enugu-bound seats are among the first to sell out. For the rest of the year the route is calmer, with dawn departures from most big mainland terminals and several branded operators to choose from.

The Lagos to Enugu bus price depends on three things: the company, the vehicle and the date. A standard seat costs a fraction of an air ticket, and on the way back the bus will carry the produce and gifts that would cost a fortune in excess baggage.

Lagos to Enugu Bus Price by Type of Bus

Each operator sets its own Lagos to Enugu bus price, and fares move with petrol prices, so the ranges below are approximate. Confirm the live fare on the company’s website, app or counter before you pay.

Bus typeWhat you getApproximate one-way fare
Standard 14 to 18-seaterAssigned seat; some lines also sell a cheaper non-air-conditioned class₦30,000 to ₦45,000
Premium Hiace-type busAir conditioning, fewer seats, branded operators₦42,000 to ₦55,000
Toyota Sienna or other 7-seaterFewer stops, more legroom₦55,000 to ₦75,000

A few real figures show where the bands come from. A GIGM seat between Enugu and Lagos has been reported at ₦42,500. Peace Mass Transit’s own fare board prices its runs between Lagos and Enugu State towns such as Nsukka and Obollo-Afor at roughly ₦40,000 to ₦45,000, depending on class. GUO’s Hiace Ultra and Sienna seats have sat about ₦9,000 apart on this route.

Festive weeks add 20 to 30 percent, as explained in the Christmas section below.

Operators That Run a Bus From Lagos to Enugu

Peace Mass Transit

PMT is headquartered in Emene, Enugu, so this is home territory. In Lagos its booking system lists terminals at Jibowu, Maza-Maza and Ojota, and it also has a terminal at Ikorodu. PMT is unusual in selling two classes on many routes: a Premium seat with air conditioning and a cheaper Standard seat without it. Its Enugu terminal is at 6 Okpara Avenue, by the Holy Ghost roundabout. Routes, classes and parcels are covered in our Peace Mass Transit price list.

GIGM

GIGM’s Lagos terminals are at Jibowu, Iyana Ipaja, FESTAC and Ajah, and it has terminals in both Enugu city and Nsukka. Its app shows which Lagos terminal has the Enugu departure you want, with the vehicle type and live fare, and the online price can sit slightly below the counter price.

GUO Transport

GUO runs Enugu buses in three forms: the 10-seater Hiace Ultra, the 7-seater Sienna, and a night bus. Reported departure points include Jibowu, Iyana Ipaja and Ojota. More on its vehicles and parcel service is in our GUO Transport price list.

Young Shall Grow Motors

Young Shall Grow’s own website lists Lagos to Enugu among its top routes. The company started in 1972 on the Enugu to Onitsha road, keeps its head office at Maza-Maza and loads from a long list of Lagos terminals, including Jibowu, Cele, Alaba and Ajah.

Libra Motors

Libra, established in 2003 and headquartered on Okota Road, lists ten Lagos terminals, among them Jibowu, Mile 2, Maza-Maza, Iyana Ipaja, Ejigbo and Ajah. Its Enugu terminal is at Light Center Plaza, by the P&T bus stop on Ogui Road.

Ifesinachi, Chisco and Other Lines

Ifesinachi loads its eastern luxury buses at Mile 2, while Chisco, Ekeson and several smaller lines sell South-East seats at Jibowu, Oshodi, Maza-Maza and Okota. Their Lagos to Enugu bus price tends to fall inside the same bands, so compare two or three on the same morning.

ABC Transport: The Onitsha Option

ABC has an Enugu terminal, but its published timetable shows no direct Lagos to Enugu bus. Its Lagos Sprinters stop at Onitsha instead, from about ₦38,700 at Ajah to ₦45,700 at Jibowu, and its evening coach to Onitsha costs around ₦28,000 to ₦30,000. Those Onitsha fares can undercut the direct Lagos to Enugu bus price, but you still have roughly 100 km to Enugu by shuttle or taxi; our Lagos to Onitsha bus price guide covers that first leg.

Lagos to Enugu by Road, Stage by Stage

The trip is about 560 km. Buses leave Lagos on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, turn east at the Sagamu interchange and run through Ijebu-Ode and Ore into Edo State, past Ofosu and Okada to Benin City. From Benin the road heads east through Agbor to Asaba on the Niger.

The river crossing was long the worst bottleneck on this road. The Second Niger Bridge, a 1.6 km twin span that opened to traffic in December 2022, lets many drivers avoid the old Head Bridge, although Onitsha itself can still be slow. Past Onitsha, the Enugu-Onitsha Expressway climbs through Awka, Amansea, Oji River and 9th Mile before dropping into Enugu.

Two stretches decide whether the day goes well. The Benin-Ore road has bad portions and a record of attacks on buses, including a GUO vehicle whose driver was killed near Okada in April 2026. The Benin-Asaba road has been in poor shape too, and the Works Ministry ordered emergency repairs after a dispute with the road’s concessionaire.

Lagos to Enugu Travel Time

Expect 8 to 11 hours terminal to terminal. Most departures leave between 6:00 and 7:00 a.m., which puts you in Enugu between late afternoon and early evening on a normal day.

What stretches the Lagos to Enugu travel time:

  • Leaving Lagos. Ojota, Berger and the Mowe to Sagamu stretch can eat the first two hours if the bus leaves late.
  • The Benin approaches. Bad portions and truck breakdowns between Ore and Benin slow everyone down.
  • Checkpoints. There are many between Benin and Enugu, and each adds a few minutes.
  • Festive traffic. In the last ten days before Christmas, the trip can run several hours longer, with the worst queues around Benin, Asaba and Onitsha.

If you have a wedding, burial or interview the same evening, travel the day before. A night bus is an option with GUO, but most passengers on this route prefer to arrive in daylight.

Christmas Bus Fares and the New Year Return

Every Lagos to Enugu bus price rises in December. In one recent season, a Legit survey of Lagos parks found ordinary 15-seater fares to the South-East between ₦25,500 and ₦38,000 before the rush, with top-tier operators charging ₦54,000 to ₦67,600. Operators projected rises of 20 to 30 percent from about 18 December, and premium 7-seater seats were quoted at up to about ₦93,600. A Peace Mass Transit clerk said fares typically climb in steps of ₦1,000 to ₦1,500 as the day approaches.

A few habits keep Christmas bus fares under control:

  1. Book as soon as you know your dates. Seats on branded lines go first, and the online price can match or beat the counter.
  2. Travel before the peak window, ideally on a weekday. Fridays and Saturdays before Christmas are the most expensive and the slowest.
  3. Buy your return early. The first week of January is the mirror image of mid-December, and Enugu terminals fill with people heading back to Lagos.
  4. Leave very early. A 5:30 or 6:00 a.m. departure clears Lagos before the festive gridlock builds.

Easter brings a smaller rise of its own.

Yams, Cartons and Waybills

The Lagos-bound bus is where luggage fights happen. Bags of rice, tubers of yam, garri, palm oil and Christmas gifts all compete for one boot. Operators generally expect one main travelling bag per passenger and charge for extra or bulky items at the loading bay, on top of the Lagos to Enugu bus price, with no fixed published rate.

  • Ask for the luggage charge before the item is loaded, pay at the desk, and keep the tag.
  • Seal palm oil in a strong jerrycan inside a second bag; leaks onto other passengers’ luggage cause trouble.
  • For heavy loads, compare the bus company’s parcel desk with a dedicated logistics service. PMT advertises parcel delivery, GUO moves goods between its terminals through GUO Logistics, and GIG Logistics runs service centres in Enugu.

Arriving in Enugu: Holy Ghost and Other Drop-Offs

Many interstate buses finish in or near the Holy Ghost area, on the Okpara Avenue side of the city centre. In August 2025 the state government opened Holy Ghost Terminal 1 there for interstate transport, with Terminal 2 for intercity runs, as part of a five-terminal project that also covers Gariki, Abakpa Nike and Nsukka. Individual companies still keep their own yards, so read the address on your ticket.

  • Holy Ghost: PMT’s terminal is by the roundabout on Okpara Avenue.
  • Ogui Road: Libra’s terminal is by the P&T bus stop.
  • Nsukka: PMT and GIGM both sell tickets to Nsukka, which saves students at the university a trip back from Enugu.

For the last leg, Bolt and taxis work across the city, and the state’s CNG mass transit buses run on main corridors. Our list of hotels in Enugu with prices helps if you arrive late and need a room near Independence Layout or GRA.

When Flying Makes More Sense

Lagos to Enugu takes about an hour by air into Akanu Ibiam International Airport, against a full day by road. Outside December, a one-way flight usually costs two to three times the Lagos to Enugu bus price; at Christmas the gap becomes far wider. No passenger train links Lagos and Enugu. Our Lagos to Enugu flight price guide covers airlines, terminals and festive fares.

The bus wins when you are carrying heavy goods, travelling as a family, or buying close to Christmas. The plane wins for short trips and fixed appointments.

Enugu Road Trip: Common Questions

Which Lagos Park Is Best for Enugu Buses?

Jibowu has the most choice, with GIGM, GUO, PMT, Libra and Young Shall Grow all nearby. Maza-Maza and Mile 2 suit Festac and Badagry Expressway residents, Ojota and Iyana Ipaja suit the Ikeja side, and Ajah saves Lekki residents a dawn crossing.

Does ABC Transport Go Directly to Enugu From Lagos?

Not on its published timetable. ABC’s Lagos Sprinters to the South-East end at Onitsha, Owerri, Aba and other towns, and its Enugu terminal mainly serves Abuja and eastern shuttle routes.

How Early Should I Book a Bus From Lagos to Enugu for Christmas?

Two to three weeks ahead for travel between mid-December and Christmas Eve. Book your January return at the same time.

What Is the Lagos to Enugu Bus Price for a Child?

Some lines price children separately; Libra’s booking form takes children aged 2 to 10 as a separate category, and GUO’s website offers a child fare. The discount varies, so ask at booking and carry proof of age.

Pick your Lagos park first, compare two or three operators on the same date, and leave before 7:00 a.m. That combination gets most passengers to Enugu in daylight and at a fair Lagos to Enugu bus price.
