Lagos to Kano Flight Price: Airlines, Fare Ranges, Terminals and Arrival Tips (2026)

Lagos to Kano flight price

Kano is the biggest market in the north and Lagos is the biggest in the south, so the air link between them carries textile traders, civil servants, students and families heading home for Sallah. Five Nigerian airlines sell nonstop seats, which gives this route more competition than most, and you can see it in the Lagos to Kano flight price: booked a couple of weeks ahead on an ordinary weekday, one-way economy usually starts a little above ₦100,000.

The straight-line distance is about 838 km, and you spend roughly 1 hour 30 minutes to 1 hour 45 minutes in the air. By road, the same journey is around 1,000 km and most of a day and a night. Every fare below is approximate and moves with jet fuel costs and demand, so confirm the live price before you pay.

Five Airlines on the Route and Where Each Leaves Lagos

Flights from Lagos to Kano are spread from mid-morning to early evening. Your choice of airline matters less to the Lagos to Kano flight price than how early you book, but it decides your terminal and your departure time. The pattern below follows recent schedules; airlines shift times with the seasons, so go by your booking.

Picking Your Departure Time

If you need to be in Kano before lunch, Rano Air is usually the only choice. Recent schedules have it leaving Lagos at about 9:40 a.m. and landing around 11:10 a.m.

Rano’s jets carry only 50 passengers, so its cheapest seats go early and usually sit at the top of the Lagos to Kano flight price range. The airline trimmed several smaller northern routes in May 2026 when jet fuel costs surged, but Lagos and Kano stayed at the heart of its network. Our Rano Air guide covers its booking channels and refund rules.

The early afternoon belongs to United Nigeria and Air Peace, which suits most people coming from the mainland once the morning rush on Ikorodu Road and Airport Road has eased.

The Max Air Lagos to Kano service is normally the last nonstop of the day. Max Air is a Kano company, and this flight is part of its safety record: on 28 January 2025, flight VM1605 from Lagos suffered a nose landing gear collapse and a burst tyre on landing at Kano. All 53 passengers and six crew walked away unhurt. The regulator suspended the airline for three months and cleared it to resume from 17 March 2025 after a safety audit.

Azman Air, which once flew Kano to Lagos, suspended operations in August 2024 and has not announced a return, so ignore old listings that still show it.

What the Lagos to Kano Flight Price Usually Looks Like

Each airline releases seats in fare buckets and sells the cheapest first, so prices climb in steps as a flight fills. For one adult in economy, these are the figures to plan around:

  • Lowest one-way fares seen on booking sites: about ₦105,000 on Air Peace, ₦117,000 on United Nigeria and ₦127,500 on Max Air. Rano Air’s cheapest seats on this route have tended to sit higher, nearer ₦170,000 to ₦190,000.
  • Return fares on Air Peace’s own booking site: mostly between about ₦204,000 and ₦214,000 for ordinary dates, with the odd promotional return close to ₦108,000.
  • January dates on that same fare calendar: far higher, with the lowest return near ₦347,000.
  • Festive peaks: in one holiday-season fare survey, BusinessDay found Air Peace selling the route at about ₦106,900 on most days but ₦350,500 on a handful of peak days, while United Nigeria’s fare sat around ₦220,500.

A sensible planning range is about ₦105,000 to ₦190,000 one way on ordinary dates, and ₦220,000 to ₦350,000 on the busiest days. Search all five airlines for your date before you pay, because on any given day the Lagos to Kano flight price can differ by ₦60,000 or more between the cheapest and dearest carrier.

Getting the Lower End of the Range

Three habits make the most difference on this route:

  1. Book at least two weeks out. The ₦105,000 to ₦130,000 buckets are the first to sell out.
  2. Price each direction separately. A cheap Air Peace seat going north can pair with a cheaper Max Air or United Nigeria seat coming back.
  3. Be flexible around Sallah. Flying a few days before the rush, or returning a few days after Eid, usually costs less than travelling on the peak days.

Bags, Bales and Excess Weight

Many passengers on this route are moving goods: fabric from Kano’s Kantin Kwari textile market heading south, electronics and spare parts heading north. Free allowances differ between airlines more than the Lagos to Kano flight price does, so check yours before you choose the cheapest ticket.

  • Air Peace: its baggage policy page lists 15 kg of checked luggage in domestic economy, plus one 6 kg cabin bag no bigger than 45 x 33 x 20 cm and a small personal item. Its home page has also advertised 20 kg on all domestic flights, so check the figure on your ticket. Excess is ₦1,000 per kg, paid at the airport.
  • United Nigeria: 20 kg of checked luggage in economy and 30 kg in business, a 6 kg cabin bag, and ₦1,000 per extra kg on domestic flights.
  • Max Air: its FAQ lists 20 kg checked plus 8 kg in the cabin.
  • Rano Air and Aero Contractors: confirm on the booking page. The overhead bins on Rano’s Embraer jets are small, so a full-size trolley bag may be tagged at the door.

Here is how it adds up. Say you are bringing 35 kg of fabric back to Lagos. On United Nigeria you are 15 kg over, which adds about ₦15,000. On an Air Peace ticket showing 15 kg, you are 20 kg over, or about ₦20,000. For a trader, the real Lagos to Kano flight price is the fare plus that excess. If your load is bigger than a couple of bags, compare the airline’s cargo desk with a road haulier before you fly.

Leaving Lagos: Which Building, and When to Arrive

Four of the five airlines leave from MMA2, the privately run domestic terminal. Air Peace is the exception: its Kano flights have been sold from the old domestic terminal, usually called MM1 or the GAT, where it splits routes between the Zulu and Alpha halls. Our Lagos airport terminal guide shows how the two buildings relate and which airlines use each.

United Nigeria’s rules give a fair idea of domestic timings: online check-in closes an hour before departure, counters close 45 minutes before, and boarding closes 15 minutes before. For Rano Air’s mid-morning flight, aim to be inside MMA2 by about 7:45 a.m., which from Lekki on a weekday means leaving home around 6:00 a.m.

The Kano End: Dankabo Terminal and the Ride Into Town

Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport is the oldest airport in Nigeria. It began operating in 1936, served as a Royal Air Force station before independence, and for decades was a refuelling stop for long-haul flights between Europe and Africa.

Domestic arrivals come into the Muhammadu Adamu Dankabo Domestic Terminal, named after the businessman who founded Kabo Air in Kano in 1980. The Aviation Minister recommissioned it on 28 July 2026 after a FAAN remodelling that added a new baggage handling system, check-in counters with built-in weighing scales, air conditioning and rebuilt access roads. Work also began on the Hajj terminal, and funding was approved to rebuild the second runway, so expect some construction around the airport.

The airport sits inside the metropolis on its northern side, so the ride into town is short by Nigerian standards. Sabon Gari, Bompai and Nassarawa GRA are a quick drive away, while the old city, with Kurmi Market and the Kofar Mata dye pits, takes longer through traffic. Bolt advertises pickups at Kano airport, and taxis wait outside arrivals. If you take a taxi, agree the price before your bags go into the boot.

Sallah, Christmas and the Harmattan Haze

Nothing moves the Lagos to Kano flight price like Sallah. Many northerners who work in Lagos fly home for Eid-el-Fitr at the end of Ramadan and again for Eid-el-Kabir about ten weeks later. Book as soon as the likely dates are known, because the cheapest buckets can sell out weeks ahead.

The Hawan Sallah processions in Kano draw visitors too, but they are not guaranteed. Before Eid-el-Fitr in March 2026, the Kano State Government called off Hawan Daushe, Hawan Fanisau and Hawan Dorayi on security grounds, while the Emir’s Hawan Idi went ahead. Check the latest announcements before you build a trip around the Durbar.

Christmas pushes traffic the other way. Many southerners who live and trade in Kano head home in December, and the return north in early January fills quickly, which helps explain why the Lagos to Kano flight price for early January dates can run so high.

Then there is the weather. From roughly December to February, harmattan dust haze can cut visibility below the level pilots need to land. NiMet has warned that visibility can drop to 1,000 m or less, and on one January day in 2022, haze stopped scheduled arrivals into Kano altogether, with inbound flights diverted. If you must be in Kano for a wedding, an interview or a court date, fly a day early during harmattan.

Is the Road Ever the Better Choice?

Lagos to Kano by road is about 1,000 km. Direct buses usually run overnight and take 13 to 18 hours, and many travellers split the journey with a night in Abuja. A seat costs well under half the cheapest Lagos to Kano flight price, so for a student with a long holiday and flexible dates, the road can make sense. Our Lagos to Kano bus price guide covers operators, parks and the two main corridors.

The cost is time and risk. The Abuja-Kaduna-Kano highway has been under reconstruction for years, and parts of the Kaduna axis have a long record of kidnappings. There is also no dependable through train: the old narrow gauge service has been suspended for long spells, and the new Kaduna to Kano standard gauge line has been under construction, with no passenger service yet.

Door to door, flying usually takes about five hours once you count the drive to the Lagos airport, check-in, the flight and the ride into Kano. On a trip shorter than a week, that saved day is what the Lagos to Kano flight price really buys.

Questions About Flying From Lagos to Kano

Which Airline Usually Has the Cheapest Seat?

Air Peace often shows the lowest starting fare, around ₦105,000 one way, followed by United Nigeria and Max Air. On a busy date, though, the lowest Lagos to Kano flight price can turn up on any of them, so search all five.

How Long Is the Lagos to Kano Flight Time?

About 1 hour 30 minutes to 1 hour 45 minutes in the air, depending on the aircraft and the winds. Rano Air’s schedule allows about 1 hour 30 minutes gate to gate.

Will Harmattan Cancel My Flight?

It can. Dust haze between December and February sometimes delays or diverts flights into Kano, so leave a spare day if your plans are fixed and choose a fare you can change.

Is Azman Air Flying Between Lagos and Kano Again?

Not that it has confirmed. The airline paused operations in August 2024; our guide on whether Azman Air is flying tracks its status.

Kano rewards travellers who book early and pick their flight time deliberately. Settle on the departure that suits your day, check which Lagos building it leaves from, and give yourself room around Sallah and the harmattan months.
